Teens crash most often because they are inexperienced. They struggle judging gaps in traffic, driving the right speed for conditions and turning safely, among other things.
The TeenSMART program has been created for one simple reason - to reduce the chance that teens will get into an accident. Teens that have completed the program are 30% less likely to cause an automobile accident than those that have not taken the course. The program has been designed to give teens the information and skills they need to boost their driving confidence, sharpen their decision-making skills behind the wheel, improve their overall driving performance, and avoid the kind of risky choices that lead to unsafe driving and accidents.
Reminder, before you hit the road, keep these “5 to Drive” rules from the National Safety Council in mind:
- No cell phone usage while driving
- No extra passengers
- No speeding
- No alcohol
- No driving or riding without a seat belt
